Once again! What a wonderful con weekend! (I needed it so hard. @_@) I was so glad to meet and re-meet new friends and acquaintances! Not to mention, comparing to how we were a year ago as a cosplay group, we've improved A LOT. (If I do say so myself.) So let's jump right into it!Friday:
This day was a little hectic... only because the world was conspiring against me. XD
You see, I had a dream of meeting Johnny Yong Bosch dressed as Emil Castagnier for about two years. And that didn't happen because whenever I'd go to a con where he'd be a guest, he'd have something go on so he wouldn't be able to go. Well... this time he was for sure attending, so I was absolutely, fiercely determined to meet him as Emil Castagnier. And I swear, my life was a sitcom that day. But let's begin with what happened before the actual convention:
Leading up to the convention, I had to take care of more schedule conflicts than usual. The first being a football game in which I played in the marching band. I had gone the beginning of the semester, to tell them that I had entered into a costume/theater competition, and that I was not going to be there that weekend (which was the truth! I just worded it differently. XD) They demanded "official documentation" of my attendance to the contest and that I had paid the "fee" (*cough* paid for my ticket). When I got that, I basically slammed the papers down on the secretary's desk and inwardly said "HA!" The second thing was that there was an two hour orchestra rehearsal that Friday and that it was considered part of a "concert series." I was almost in tears at this point because skipping one of those things meant I was going to fail the class according to the syllabus... and not to mention, Friday was when I had lined up Emil Castagnier. So I talked and pleaded with the orchestra director, telling him about my situation and how enthusiastic I was about these "costuming events" and apparently it wasn't as big as a deal as I thought. Because all I had to do was find a substitute. Anyway, all that was just to show you how crazy it was beforehand. XD
When the actual first day arrived, I woke up like normal, got dressed like normal, and played a bit of ToS 2 to pump me up. Once ChEsHiRe-K started getting ready, I had to help her finish a few last touches on Marta. In the process, I burned my fingers pretty badly. Then I had a malfunction with my costume and scrambled to fix that. And then, while printing out directions to the place, the printer ate the paper as it was coming out and jammed. After all that, once we started driving, google maps lied to us and we had to turn around. And then it took an eternity to find a parking spot... AND THEN we finally got into the convention area, and I had more malfunctions. And at the same time, running from desk to desk trying to find tape, people were wanting pictures. Then once I had fixed my malfunction (temporarily because it exploded later on), we got called out by an AC Paradise photographer for a mini photoshoot. XD; And I was getting pretty desperate to get to the panel/autograph session. Then FINALLY, I sat down and got to sit through the panel... but not without another cosplay malfunction with my straps. XD THEN FINALLY, the time came for the autograph session and I had a "my dream is coming true" moment. XD Unfortunately, they had to keep the line going, so I didn't really get much chance to interact with Johnny Yong Bosch, BUT. IT. HAPPENED. He looked up, looked a bit startled at first, and gave me a high five! And then he complimented me on my costume.
SO NOW I HAVE TO FIND A NEW DREAM. XD
The rest of the day was pretty chill. I got involved in a pretty awesome photoshoot with ~All-At-Sea
. With equipment and everything! That was a first for me, so I was shocked yet very pleased at the same time. I'm hoping I'll be able to put some shots on here, because some turned out pretty darn awesome... not to mention there was some pretty awesome tape that fixed my ongoing cosplay malfunction. XDSaturday:
I don't know why, but this song was stuck in my head all day: [link]
Saturday was more relaxing in a way because the world wasn't conspiring against me. XD I got into my costume and was on my way with Cheshire. And once we got there and we put on the full things... I remembered why I love volume VI cover Ciel so much. XD I LOVE THAT TRAIN. Soooo flowy! Well, we walked in and the first thing I get is a BANANA from ~Dennasaur-Rawr
... I was so freaking happy, I was a lot more excited than I should have been. XD Speaking of bananas... several Banzai fans walked up to me and would say "bananas in pajamas" and I started singing it with them. XD So out of character for Ciel, but I didn't care. The rest of the day was a pretty normal con/masquerade day. I was sooooo afraid for ~SuperWeaselPrincess
's costume though... o___o we'll just leave it at that. XD Fortunately, there were little to none malfunctions that day!
Okay, so the masquerade... by far, I feel that was the best masquerade skit we've ever performed. Going on stage, I was so freaking excited. And I was so surprised about the reaction we got when they announced that it was "Banzai Productions" and some of the cheers we got during the skit! Personally, I think it was our best performance for all of us. And then going off stage, we were bombarded by high fives... it was awesome. XD Though there's only one thing about that night that kind of bummed me--we didn't exactly win anything for our masquerade skit. And I know why, but I'm keeping a low profile and will just leave it at that. XD; But on the brighter side--~ChEsHiRe-K
won first in the cosplay photography contest with this picture! [link]
And yes, today, I'm still a little bummed that we didn't win anything because we worked so hard on those costumes and performed so well, but I'm happy for everyone else that won something--especially since some of them were our friends and acquaintances. As corny as it sounds, we won in our hearts. XD And what really matters is that we made a lot of people smile that night. I'm just taking it as a learning experience... there's nowhere else to go but forward.
And that doesn't mean we've given up on setting our sights on another "Best In Show" award! >: D But if it's any consolation... I can't deny that the audience freaking loved us: I heard those cheers. XD And I was so happy to hear them! I feel like I've taken a step forward in the world of cosplay! And I feel like we're kind of "up there" when it comes to quality.
And the skit has already been posted on youtube. The beginning got cut a little bit, but it's pretty much the whole thing: [link]
That pretty much sums up Saboten... now I'm depressed it's over because I have to go back to school... GAHHH darn you post-con depression and con hangovers! I've had a headache all day today. XD
